Top Reasons to Fix Your Old Copier

Your Office Copier Keeps Jamming

Your current office copier is jamming in the Document Feeder.  Keep it, just get a copier tech to come over and do a general cleaning on the rollers etc.

Lines on Your Copies or Prints

Sometimes lines on copies are caused by innocuous things like dirty document feeders or dirty imaging units.  Just call a copier tech to help!

Noises in Your Commercial Copier

So you have a few squeaks coming from your printer copier.  Unless you have a grinding noise, just call a copier tech to lubricate the areas.  Do not use a spray lubricant, whatever you do!

Buying a New Office Printer or Fixing Commercial Printer

So the question now is when do I actually consider buying a new printer?

Situation 1.  You have a color laser printer for your office.  Your printer isn’t giving you any messages, but the prints have a blue and red line on them.  The first thing to investigate, is if it just needs a cleaning, or if there is a problem with some of the parts.  Most of the time, colored lines indicate that you need to replace the drums on your printer.  We’ll consider this to be the case.  Most big box store laser printers have color printers that take expensive drum units.  And even though the two drums involved are the blue and red, the black and yellow are next.  This will cost your business anywhere from 500 to 1000 dollars.  At that point, it is definitely wiser to buy a new printer.

Situation 2. You get a call from your current copier company.  They tell you that they can no longer get parts for your office copier, and the contract even says that they don’t have to fix copiers if their parts are obsolete.  This can be a legitimate claim by the copier company, but it usually is a way to force your company to buy or lease a copier.  The customer usually can’t do anything here.  They can keep the copier and challenge the company, but that will be a waste.  Sometimes it’s best to upgrade at that point, because this time you got a copier company you can trust.

Situation 3.  Hurricane Mikey is coming to the Sarasota Area!  Everyone prepares and hopefully doesn’t get hit, but low and behold, Some of the businesses get water in their copiers.  One company lets it dry, and turns the copier back on, and it works!  They are filled with joy, and they call the copier company to tell them the good news… Then the copier guys tell them that it may work now, but rust will set in on some of the circuitry later, and they have to cancel the service contract.  The company is super bummed, then realize that insurance will cover it. It might be time for a Sarasota copier rental.

Situation 4. You have a copier on lease, and the lease is up.  You have had it for 5 years, and have had a couple of normal issues like dirty copies and a few jams, but the copier company always fixed it.  Now they don’t want to service the machine after the lease expired.  Well, we would be glad to help take your machine under service agreement.  Most machines at lease end are good to go for another couple of years.  You just want to make sure the previous copier company replaced drums.

Repair Old Copier vs Replace FAQ

Copier Printer - Is It Too Old to Fix?

Your business printer is 7 years old, and it doesn’t want to connect to a your computer or network.  You look up the print drivers, and see it is only good for your previous version of windows.  This is usually the problem with well maintained printer copiers.  The machine outlasts the drivers.

Did You Buy Extra Toners or Drums as Surplus?

Many times, our businesses need extra toners or drums, to make sure when you run out, you don’t go weeks without a copier.  What if your copier has a small problem, even if it’s older, I would fix it and use the expensive extra toners and drums.  Then just wait until it looks like you need to order more toners or drums, then get a new multifunction copier.

Copier Options-I Really Want a Copier That Does..?

You have a black and white commercial copier, but have been wanting to upgrade to a color laser copier for your marketing, and current customers.  Your current machine just won’t die!  Even though your copier fix might not need thousands of dollars of repair, a couple hundred dollar repair might warrant getting what you want.

Copier Fix-Will I have more problems soon?

Many times office copier scanners have certain parts which are designed to last for only a certain amount of time and or prints.  For example, a drum may be rated at 30,000 pages. This means it could will be needed to be changes near that time.  To prevent a lot of downtime for your business, it is a good idea if you see all 4 color drums coming up, to potentially looking at leasing a copier.
